Almost any technology we take for granted today involves engineering: from mobile phones to space shuttles, engineering certainly has an impact on our daily lives. Increasingly over the last few years, I have become drawn to engineering and the wide range of possibilities that studying in this field can offer. Modern technology always intrigues me and I find it fascinating to see how they function, especially with the intricate physics behind them. I believe that although it is important to determine how things work, it is perhaps more valuable to understand why they fail and use it to our advantage to construct better solutions. I aspire to become an engineer because I believe that I can make a difference to our lives, by creating solutions for the many problems that surround our world today.
After embracing a larger interest in engineering, I decided to broaden my mind by reading about different engineers such as James Watt and Edison. They both inspired me as they dedicated their work to improve living standards at the time, which revolutionized the way we lived. In July I attended a Headstart course at Loughborough to discover more about this field in general, and it has further secured my opinion that I want to be part of this area of expertise. Working at Steve Leung's Architects in Hong Kong last summer has provided me with a sound opportunity to gain an incredible insight into the areas of architecture and structural engineering. Although it was hard work, I enjoyed the challenges by solving them with scientific and mathematical ideas. Besides, I learnt to use statistical models to solve complex calculations, whilst developing teamwork and time management skills.
I believe that I am well suited to this field, as my subjects and thinking reflect the nature of engineering. Studying physics with the Advanced Extension Award has provided me with the core scientific knowledge needed. My innate logical thought enables me to apply this theory to diverse and practical problems, which I find challenging and enjoyable. Maths has given me numerous problem solving opportunities and allows me to apply usual concepts to solve unusual situations. Furthermore, by studying Design and Technology, I gained experiences with electronics, materials and CAD/CAM, as well as coping with large amounts of coursework. For the past 4 years I have thoroughly enjoyed boarding, as I get on well with others easily. This has helped me to develop as a person, making me independent and organized, but more importantly it has developed my interpersonal skills. As I am from a family of Chinese origins in the UK, I am able to speak both English and Chinese fluently, which is an invaluable advantage for me. Apart from my curricular activities, I like to be involved with other aspects of school life, such as sports. My favorites are rugby and hockey, and I am currently a member of the 1st Hockey team. 3.说明一个对你有重要影响的人并描述对你的影响。

1.中英文成绩单/在读证明/毕业证

中文版高中毕业证复印件，英文版高中毕业证复印件，中英版的每份都要学校教务处盖章。
如学生尚未毕业，提供中英文在读证明即可。（范例如Attachment Chapter4-1）
2.英文考试成绩报告复印件（TOEFL/IELTS/SAT），在选好学校后，学生还需要与考试中心联系，向所选学校增送正式成绩报名。
3、推荐信。推荐信通常包括3封，一份是School Report，是你的学校给你出具的官方推荐，国外一般有Counselor即升学顾问来完成，国内可以找校长、年级组长、班主任来完成，或者你指定某个老师担任你的Counselor来完成；另外两封叫做Teacher Evaluation，是任课老师（一定要教你课）对你的评价和推荐。由于你高二的表现也至关重要，因此联系推荐人的事情也等到高二结束以后才可以开始办理。如果某些学生还有额外的推荐信也是可以的，但通常不能替代以上的School Report和Teacher Evaluation。
4、父母工作收入证明和银行存款证明。这些也一般在申请开始的时候办理即可。
5、TOEFL和SAT成绩单。一般TOEFL和SAT成绩单是要求由考试机构直接寄给学校。
6、学校要求填写的其他不能网上递交的表格，比如奖学金申请表格和家庭收入情况表等。

Since learning to read from a very young age, literature has been my greatest love. I am fascinated by the impact that written words have on society, and how they influence the way that people interpret issues such as war or politics. Literature has shaped our modern world; it is the most diverse subject to study as it encompasses all aspects of life. My passion for reading and writing has encouraged me to write creatively and to read a wide variety of novels and poetry outside school. I enjoy a broad range of classical and modern literature and my favourite novelists include Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. I have loved studying Chaucer and Blake in school but tend to read more modern poetry at home, including the works of Eliot, Heaney and Plath. The interpretation of literature from other cultures is pivotal to our exploration and understanding of historical and social contexts throughout the literary world. French literature complements my study of English, for instance the importance of 'courtly love' and the development of poetic style in each country. I have a great interest in French culture; I enjoy French film and have loved studying the work of Truffaut at A2-level as well as reading a few simple novels at home.
My passion for the French culture also extends to my interest in History. This AS-level has not only broadened my knowledge of French history (I studied the French Wars of Religion for my coursework) but has also enhanced my analytical and essay-writing skills. I spent the week completely immersed in French language and culture; my confidence to speak increased enormously and I came love the country and its traditions all the more.
Outside school, I thoroughly enjoy my musical pursuits. I play the French Horn in a Youth Orchestra and intend to take my Grade 8 in ; I also sing in a Madrigal Choir. I perform in three to four concerts a year, including the school Christmas concert; this year I will be playing a movement from Mozart's fourth horn concerto. My interest in music has required good organisational skills, as I helped to run a choir at school for a competition. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and it allowed me to develop my leadership skills whilst working in a team. My duties as a prefect have also contributed towards these skills; I assist a Year Eight form with a team of other prefects. In July I took part in a World Challenge 'Leadership Day', participating in group activities where each team member had a chance to act as the 'leader'. I am also involved in the 'Pyramid' voluntary organisation, which is an after school activity club for children with low self-esteem or mild behavioural problems. In this capacity, I work with a team of three other club leaders, and each week we organise a new activity for the children.
I know that I am ideally suited to a joint degree in English and French, and I intend to use my skills and interests in contributing to university activities. I am highly committed to my studies, and look forward to pursuing them in a challenging course at university.

To live a meaningful life everyday; to continually pursue my predetermined worthwhile goals. My view of life.
Could I put myself in the life-threatening working environment? Could I sacrifice my life for the benefits of others? Some people may laugh at my crazy question. To me, that is a serious question I have come a long way to find my answer. “I am not sure whether it is worth to answer”; “What is the true meaning of that question?”
When I was a young child, I watched a soap opera that was about court. I was deeply impressed by the judge’s calmness and the lawyer’s eloquence and resource that were showed in this opera. From then on, I hoped to study law some day. Fortunately, I performed well in entrance e-amination and got enrolled into -x-University. Then I chose law as my major without hesitation. At university, I studied hard and got GPA 3.4. What’s more, I broadly read all kinds of books, including philosophy, history etc. My teachers’ instruction strengthened my understanding of law and makes me understand the significance of law to a country. From my studies, I had a lot of fun and got more interested in law. Moreover, I actively participated in practice in holidays from common company to law firm and tried to apply the theory I had learned into practice.
This summer, I had my internship in counselor department in --- Group Co Ltd which was involved in a business contract dispute, which was submitted to China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission for arbitration. As a representative of the requested applicant, I took part in the evidence collection in the early arbitration stage and clearly e-plained why the 5% balance of goods was not paid on time. After knowing the whole case, I visited my teacher, an Arbitration Law professor, and listened to her opinions. Realizing the counterpart didn’t completely implement their contract duty, I gave reasons as follows: First, the counterpart company didn’t mention bearing issue, which caused that the delivered machines couldn’t be put into the plant because of the disqualification of workshop. Thus overhaul was necessary, which delayed production and resulted loss. Based on these reasons, the counterpart didn’t completely carry out its duty, so our party did not pay the balance on time. During this time, I found out the evidence and pictures that attested counterpart did not give reasonable suggestion and service, and made a statement in the court. Finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that I stated. They had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company representatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. Under such condition, I was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. This matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.
In addition, I took part in the contact draft in several companies. In the process, when I met a lot of problems, I often turned to my teachers for help, which made good impression on them. As I cherished each practice, I studied my specialty and English hard. With effective study method and diligence, I did well both in English and law, which helped me a lot to get scholarship every year. On the other hand, my practice inspired me to study. In practice, I e-ercised my legal knowledge. I also realize the big gap between theory and its application—sometimes I have master the rules but I didn’t know how to use it in actual case. My practice e-periences have not only strengthened what I learned but have supplied new knowledge for me, which is good for my future study and career.
In my study and practice, I admired outstanding lawyers’ eloquence and jumping thinking more and more. However, in China, most of lawyers come from theory study and those who can perform well in practice are insufficient. Moreover, after the China’s entrance to WTO, there are a lot of problems with Chinese law. I think, my internship e-perience is not enough. In practice, I could combine substantive law with procedural law to analyze case, but I still feel my theoretical foundation is not solid enough. What’s more, comparably speaking, the chances that I have to initiatively study and practice are not a lot. Thereby, I am eager to study further abroad to know more about foreign law, thoughts and lawyer career so that I am able to stand out in fierce competition.

研究你所申请的学校。大部分学校会在admission page上提供校方对申请者的要求。充分了解该所学校，你愈可能写好你的PS，以此证明你对该所学校确实十分地感兴趣。你得花费功夫给读信者一种印象：你花了更多的时间使自己对该所学校了解得比其他的申请者更透彻，这些特别功夫使读信人对你的勤奋，专心致志和对该院系的兴趣有着十分良好的印象。这些特别了解和信息不必在每字之间中提出，也无须特别夸张其辞，你的陈述只需包含足够的信息使人留下你做了特别努力的印象即可。
在申请文档中避免不同部分之间的冗长重复，不要只在行文间陈述你的平均绩点和课程，这些东西在申请中是会被予以与其它部分相当的重视，然而如果你认为平均绩点和课程有所需解释之处则不妨多写一些，比如说，你可以讲明某一些平均绩点的不定是因为生病或是家庭问题所致，除了这些情况，千万别为你的分数找理由，入学委员会每年都要读过成百上千个这样的理由。
在一篇个人陈述中介绍自己可以有着不同的形式格局，就像每个人讲话一样风格不拘。然而，一篇成功的个人陈述，是一种比较有针对性的自我介绍，聚焦于申请表格提出的两个问题回答“我是谁”，“我能提供些什么”，成功的陈述从未偏离过这两个主题介绍自身，描述你作为有竞争力候选者的潜能。
因此，将个人经历中涉及主题的主要成就，转折点和大事件必须相应地着重突出，分析你的个人简历，个人历史和记忆，将生涯中决定性事件单独突出。

第一人称叙事，这是基本常见的方式，“我”字频频使用，对大部分体裁，它都可能用专业学校和研究生院经常使用此方法，因其直接切入主题，这种方法最大的危险在于你如果不改变句型就极易使读者厌烦，别在通篇文章中给描述语前面加上主语，改变它们的词序，注意词语句子长度，改变文章的面貌和笔感。
第二人称叙事使用“你”字，这种方法极少见但地读者和作者之间建立心灵交流却有关键作用，通常在讲述故事的体裁中使用，其不足之处在于读者会觉得过于私人性质，交浅言深。
1、PS的长度要适中，600—800英文单词。
2、紧扣专业，主线明确，避免盲目个性化。让招生委员会知道你选择该专业的明确和强烈的动机，同时具备充分的条件完成该专业的学习。
3、结构简单，衔接紧密，主线明确，便于理解。谨记：simple is the best。
4、精心安排PS和其它文件的关系。PS，推荐信，简历等文件构成一整套申请文书，既需要相互应证，也需要这些文件各有侧重点。
5、语言表达上，英语要地道、符合英语的思维习惯和文风，避免“中式英语”。
