american island of oahu,the japanese ambassador to the united states and
his colleague delivered to our secretary of state aformal reply to arecent
american message.and while this reply stated that it seemed useless to
continue the existing diplomatic negotiations,it contained no threat or
hint of war or of armed attack.
it will be recorded that the distance of hawaii from japan makes it
obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks
ago.during the intervening time,the japanese government has deliberately
sought to deceive the united states by false statements and expressions of
hope for continued peace.
the attack yesterday on the hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to
american naval and military forces.i regret to tell you that very many
american lives have been lost.in addition,american ships have been
reported torpedoed on the high seas between san francis co and
honoluluyesterday,the japanese government also launched an attack against
malaya.
last night,japanese forces attacked hong kong. last night,japanese forces attacked guam. last night,japanese forces attacked the philippine islands.

japan has,therefore,undertaken asurprise offensive extending throughout
the pacific area.the facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves.the
people of the united states have already formed their opinions and well
understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
as ***mander in chief of the army and navy,i have directed that all
measures be taken for our defense.but always will our whole nation
remember the character of the onslaught against us.
no matter how long it may take us to over***e this premeditated

环境与我们的生活极为密切，与我们的生存息息相关。让我们想一想，自从人类诞生以来，一切的衣食往行及生产、生活有哪一样离得开我们生存的环境，我们生活在地球上，然而地球并不是有我们生存，还有很多很多的动物植物，所有生物的生存，又有哪一样离得开地球上的大气、森林，海洋、河流、土襄、草原呢?地球就是由所有的生物组成了错综复杂而关系密切的自然生态系统，这就是人类赖以生存的基本环境。
人类把文明的进程一直滞留在对自然的征服掠夺上，却从来不曾想到对哺育人类的地球给予保护和回报，我们人类在取得辉煌的文明成果的同时，对自然的掠夺却使得我们所生存的地球满目疮疤，人口的增长和生产活动的增多，也对环境造成冲击，给环境带来压力。
地球上人类、生物和气候、土壤、水等环境条件之间存在着错综复杂的相互关系，就好比我们人体的各个器官、各种机能之间都是需要保持平衡是一样的，你想想，我们人类身上的某个器官坏了，人就会生病，就会痛苦不已，其实地球也是如此，一旦失去了生态平衡，便会产生种种不良后果。因为人类的侵害，如今地球面临了很多的环境问题，比如气候变暖，臭氧层空洞，酸雨，有毒废弃物，野生动物灭绝，以及大气、水污染等等，这些都是令人类头疼不已的事情。
保护环境，人人有责，虽然我们现在还只是个学生，没有能力去改变那些环境不问题，但是我们可以从小事做起。我们可以积极参与植树节，保护身边的花草树木，我们要爱护身边的环境卫生，遵守有关禁止乱扔各种废弃物的规定，把废弃物扔到指定的地点或容器中，避免使用一次性的饮料杯、饭盒、塑料袋，用纸盒等代替，这样可以大大减少垃圾，减轻垃圾处理工作的压力。这一切，看起来不是很平凡的事情吗?只要我们愿意，很轻松就能完成，很轻松就能参与到保护环境的重大工作当中。

来演讲紧张不紧张？紧张！站在公众面前，很多人可以指挥成千上万的军队，但如果你让他说几句话，他就会退缩，不敢说话。原因是什么？
胆小！美国人打赢南北战争的将军葛兰特，指挥千军万马打赢仗，林肯**请他上台给他勋章，让他几句话，他讲不出口，为什么？怕这玩意，一讲演就紧张前天晚上我编了一个故事，一个北京的小姐，在一个大楼建筑里面，她看到一个人在里面走来走去，嘴巴里面念念有词，那个小姐问他你干什么，他说我要到北京大学演讲，那个小姐说你紧张吗？
他说我不紧张。他说你为什么不紧张。如果你不紧张，为什么要来女厕？那个人就是连战连战唬弄了你们台湾有一位很有名的歌星，崔苔菁，崔是吹牛，苔是台湾人，菁是青年，台湾要靠混，靠吹牛，又是青年人混，连战就是这种人他可以唬弄别人，唬弄不到我们，可以唬弄你们至少前一阵子唬弄你们，你们任何人觉得连战讲演好的人，我就要警告你们，今天你们可能很失望，为什么呢？因为我无法花一个小时把这个观念转过来，因为你们上了连战的当以后，我很难把这个观念转过来我在这儿埋怨一个人，埋怨我的老板，凤凰电视台的刘长乐先生，为什么要埋怨他，他把我「鼓囚」 ( 北京话，可理解为「弄」 ) 到北京来，对不起，我一看到你们就讲很多乡音，「鼓囚」到北京来，可是我已经在中国大陆、在凤凰电视台上讲了有 400 多场，你们对我相当的熟悉，用一个熟悉的眼光来看我，要我今天把这个讲演讲成功，这是高难度的，你们对连战完全不了解，你们看到他吗？
所以对我熟悉，对我是个困难，这个困难是刘长乐老板造成的，所以我今天有所抱怨现在开始讲正题了，罗马教皇讲了一句话，他说你演讲的时候不能用稿子，为什么不能用稿子？用稿子表示你记不住，如果你自己都记不住，你怎么样让听众记得住呢？你这个演讲就失败了！
所以大家看 ( 李敖敞开西装外套 ) ，没有稿子也没有小抄，可是我带了一些证据是有的，等会会显示证据我必须和大家说，接下来这个演讲的时候是刘长乐老板告诉我，最后我问他一句话，把他问得愣住了，我说有没有铺红地毯？他说柯林顿有，连战有。我为什么不说我没有呢？他说，北大尊重你，把你当成学术演讲，所以没有铺红地毯。**是这个意思吗？
我说好，我做学术演讲，讲得好就是学术演讲，讲不好，讲一半，铺红地毯还来得及要先赞美共产党为什么我要这样说，不然人家说北京大学势利眼，怎么不给李敖铺红地毯，怎么给当官的，或者说是政治人物铺红地毯？我在这儿有很多人眼睛看着我，说李敖骂过国民党骂过***，骂过老美，骂过小日本，今天你在北京，你敢骂共产党？很多人不怀好意，幸灾乐祸看着我我告诉你，我先不骂共产党，我先赞美共产党和国民党曾经打倒的势力，那就是北洋军阀，为什么赞美北洋军阀，大家知道吗？
北京大学怎么出来的，北洋军阀，什么人叫蔡元培校长做北京大学校长，那时候他是国民党人的身份，是北洋军阀，北洋军阀有这个肚量把全国最好的大学交给和他敌对的一个政治势力的首敌，我们现在骂北洋军阀，我们有什么资格骂北洋军阀呢？我们不要骂北洋军阀，我们要做历史性的反省以前北京大学胡适讲了一段话说，他说，你要为国家牺牲你的自由，可是胡适说，争取你个人的自由，就是争取国家的自由柯林顿引用这句话的时候没有引用完，胡适说：「一个真正的开明进步的国家，不是一群奴才造成的，是要有独立个性，有自由思考的人造成的」所以柯林顿的演讲引证有错误，后来又来了一个人，就是连战，他在讲演里面提到了四个字，有点犯忌讳的，可是事实上他提到了，叫做「自由主义」各位，连战对自由主义的解释完全错误，他说胡适把自由主义带到台湾，所以台湾有一股自由主义的学风，在学校里面流传下来了我告诉各位，没这个事，没有人敢这样做，包括连战，他们都不敢这样做，所以自由主义这四个字名人英语演讲 harry s.

one aspect of the present situation, which i present to you at this time for your consideration and decision, concerns greece and turkey. the united states has received from the greek government an urgent appeal for financial and economic assistance. preliminary reports from the american economic mission now in greece and reports from the american ambassador in greece corroborate the statement of the greek government that assistance is imperative if greece is to survive as a free nation.
i do not believe that the american people and the congress wish to turn a deaf ear to the appeal of the greek government. greece is not a rich country. lack of sufficient natural resources has always forced the greek people to work hard to make both ends meet.
since 1940, this industrious, peace loving country has suffered invasion, four years of cruel enemy occupation, and bitter internal strife. when forces of liberation entered greece they found that the retreating germans had destroyed virtually all the railways, roads, port facilities, ***munications, and merchant marine. more than a thousand villages had been burned.
eighty-five per cent of the children were tubercular. livestock, poultry, and draft animals had almost disappeared. inflation had wiped out practically all savings.
as a result of these tragic conditions, a militant minority, exploiting human want and misery, was able to create political chaos which, until now, has made economic recovery impossible.greece is today without funds to finance the importation of those goods which are essential to bare subsistence. under these circumstances, the people of greece cannot make progress in solving their problems of reconstruction.
greece is in desperate need of financial and economic assistance to enable it to resume purchases of food, clothing, fuel, and seeds. these are indispensable for thesubsistence of its people and are obtainable only from abroad. greece must have help to import the goods necessary to restore internal order and security, so essential for economic and political recovery.

my answer is, the method will help the english learners because it is a perfect match with the chinese principles ofdiligence, self-help and determination. mere exposure to english will not enable you to speak english. if you want to drive you have to get in the car and drive, if you want to dance you have to turn on the music and dance, if you want to swim you have to jump in the water and swim.
in fact, swimming is the perfect ***parison to learning english. you can’t learn to swim by sitting in a room and reading books about swimming skills. in order to be a swimmer you’ve got to conquer you fear, you’ve got to survive and suck in water, yell for help, you’ve got to lose face many times before you can make it.
but, to be a good swimmer you’ve got to practice again and again. to be a great swimmer you have to practice for years until you can harmonize every part of your body and mind.
