good morning/afternoon! first thing first, i gotta say, wow,it's funny thing to be given a chance like that.trurh be told,i really got a little bit nervous before i stand right here ,so called 'stage fright'.

if you look specifically on me .you may find my hands shaking, pretty assembles the guy who suffered from pakinson's disease, and legs wobbling ,like i caught so-called ball leg. okay, let's stop going around the bush and get back to my topic today.

i really like to talk a funny story i have just heard.a lady called lucy emigrated to united states several years ago.her spoken english is not that fluent .

and one day,she is just sitting on the couch with his u.s friends mandy watching sit-***.a noise of bump had the attention of mandy, which led her to go out of the house trying to figure out what had happened.

can you imagine that mandy go straight out with merely a sweater.so lucy shouted at her,"lucy ,turn your clothes on." what suprised her most, beyond her wildest imagination, is that almost all the male in this country took their head out of the window.

admittedly, lucy made a mistake here .the word spitted means mandy is totally naked to the reason that male looked out of the window.the right sentence shall be,"put your clothing on.

"the story inspires you to take a careful look on the vast difference between eastern and western culture. that's full of it,thank you for your time!

the first time i saw bao was in xx, the year when thomas and uber cup was held. at that time he was playing against li zongwei, who is also a good player from malaysia. bao beat him.

to tell the truth, at first the reason why i liked him was just because i thought he was pretty.*(maybe it is not a suitable word, but i think no better word can describe him, he is really pretty!) from that time, i have focused on him.

then gradually, i found that he not only has good appearance, but also has a talent for badminton.

he is very tall, about 1.90 meters. he is the tallest one among all the players in the chinese badminton team.

in xx, he is chosen as the flag holder stands for china in the opening ceremony in the 15th asian games held in doha. it was the first time that the badminton players were chosen to take over the special task, before which time, it belonged to the basketball players. it was a great honor.

and it also proved that bao was an excellent athlete. we are all proud of him.

he began to play badminton when he was at primary school. in xx, he won his first good medal, which was significant to him, in guangzhou. because of that, he entered the chinese badminton team.

as he is as old as lin dan, who is the top one in the world, he is always put into a situation which is not good to him. he seldom beats lin dan, so he gained a name which is called’千年老二’. in fact, his techniques are ***prehensive, but he is lack of passion, the desire to win is not so strong.

so he always has misplays. due to this, he seldom wins the gold medal. i think this is related to his character.

he is easygoing and couth; he looks as if he will never get angry with anybody. so this affects him while he is playing badminton. in a period of time, critical voice has ***e towards him.

he is under great pressure. he was not in the best state. but recently he cheers up again.

several days ago, the chinese badminton championship xx was held in guangzhou. i went to see him on saturday. i was very excited, and i shouted loudly, hoping he could hear me.

there is no doubt that he won the game. before he went away, he waved hand to us, how excited i was at that time! the next day, he beat li zongwei again and he won the man’s single gold medal.

all of us are very happy. after 7 years, which could be a long time for an athlete, he proved himself again in guangzhou, which is considered as his lucky place.

i think this will be the energy of his advancing. and i hope he can keep this fighting will and win the gold medal in the 29th olympic games held in beijing!

best wishes!

my definition of success

today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? it is what everyone is longing for.

sometimes success would be rather ******. winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; ****** a new friend is success; even now i am

standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.

however, as a person’s whole life is concerned, success bexxes very

xxplicated. is fortune success? is fame success?

is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people’

s hopes and ideals.nowadays, in the modern society there are many people

who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose.

but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end?

what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of

people’ hopes and ideals.

different people have different ideas about success; cause people’s hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to xxe by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility.

these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.

what is success? everyone has his own interpretation as i do. but i am sure

every success leads to an ever-brighter future. so ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a

successful life!

i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed-we hold theses truths to be self-oevident, that all men are created equal. i have a dream that one day on the red hills of ge***ia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood. i have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

i have a dream today! when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and hamlet, from every state and city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of god’s children-black men and white men , jews and gentiles, catholics and protestants-will be able to join hands and to sing in the words of the old negro spiritual, “free at least ,free at last . thank god almighty, we are free at last.

”第三篇:经典英文演讲稿 the rhythm of life

how well are we in tune with the rhythm of life? in our busy day to day existence, we don't often stop to ask ourselves this question. at least i don't.

and it wasn't until i joined a xxpetitive sporting event that i learned a most important lesson – we must place our mind in harmony with the natural order of things to be successful.

let me tell you what happened.

i decided to take part in an international marathon in my hometown last year. being an ambitious person, i hoped to finish it within 5 hours, acxxpanied by my friend with whom i had trained.

the big day finally arrived. “ready…set…bang” and we were off.

at first, we kept a rapid pace and ran nonstop. at this pace, we finished the first 20 kilometers in 2 hours and i thought running a marathon was a piece of cake. then my running mate began to slow down.

i urged him to keep running at the same pace but he said no, he wanted to conserve his energy. i felt i had partnered with the wrong person, therefore, i sprinted on and left him behind in the dust.

a few kilometers later, i began to understand his strategy as my pace slowed to a jog then a walk. after that i was incapable of moving another step. i was humiliated as more and more people ran passed me.

more than once i thought “maybe i should quit.” i started to doubt my ability to finish this race.

at this moment, my running mate caught up with me and slapped me on the back. “follow me,” he shouted. he had balanced his marathon pace and was encouraged me to do the same.

for the rest of this grueling contest, we walked, jogged, ran a few miles, and walked again. slowly, painfully but hopefully this time, we established the most suitable pace within the natural flow of our physical capabilities.

eventually we acxxplished our first marathon of 42 kilometers in 4 and half hours. i asked myself, what did this marathon mean to me? my marathon experience became an influential metaphor for my life about how we must learn to pace ourselves in everything, by being in tune with the rhythm of life.

like the tide that ebbs and flows, we must listen to advice but make our own decisions. like the show at dawn and dusk, we must learn to balance pride and modesty. and from the way the wind can both shout and whisper, we must learn when to be strong and when to be gentle, for everything moves in its own rhythm and its own yin and yang elements.

it is the interaction of these xxplementary extremes that produces harmony, as laozi said, extremes meet. since the marathon, this notion of two opposite forces working together has been my running partner, so to speak. yin and yang exist everywhere, constantly interacting, and never existing in an absolute condition.

wel***e to guangdong

ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges, good afternoon.

i ***e from one of the most lovely and attractive areas of china, the pearl river delta of guangdong province and i'd love to say a few words about this area that is so dear to my heart.

guangdong province is a magically beautiful wonderland, with endless natural treasures. the lush and green mountains are inhabited by songbirds and exotic animals; the farm land is fertile and productive, providing all of its people with wonderfully nutritious grains and all the fruits they need to be healthy and strong. the pearl river meanders through the province and eventually ***es to our beautiful seashore with crystal clear blue water, flourishing with all kinds of different fish and sea creatures.

all these natural advantages help to boost the ever-expanding economy of guangdong and increase the welfare of its people.

guangdong is privileged to have such a beautiful landscape, with hundreds of historical sites and places of great interest to local people and foreigners alike. our capital city, guangzhou, is also known as "the city of flowers". everywhere you look you will see flourishing plants and blossoming flowers overflowing with vigor.

the people of guagdong are very friendly to visitors from anywhere. whoever you are and wherever you ***e from, guangdong people will greet you with the only language---guangdong dialect.

guangdong is also known as the chinese capital of delicious food. there is an old saying that "the only best delicacies are in guangdong.” food from this province is internationally famous.

its variety of tastes, shapes and colors can satisfy even the most refined palette. i'm sure, the moment you seat yourself at a cantonese banquet, your appetite will naturally be***e keen and eager to taste all the numerous delicacies of the region. here are but a few i will mention in passing:

steamed fish in ginger sauce, seasoned chicken, drunken shrimp, dance fish balls, fried jellyfish, roast suckling pig or duck, braised crispy chicken or squab, shark fin soup, moon cakes, refreshments and desert, and so many more. my mouth is watering just at the sound of these wonderful dishes.

i would like you all to know that there is truly nowhere in the world i would rather live and i invite you all to ***e discover the hidden treasures of my hometown. i would be glad to serve as your personal guide.

thank you all.

me and my fears

honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

it is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the english language.

about a year and a half ago, i took part in my very first english speech contest. when i stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, i could hardly speak. i stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say.

my fears had paralyzed me.

while my passion for english has never changed, i lost my courage to speak in public. when my professor again encouraged me to take part in this ***petition, i said “no.” i couldn’t endure yet another painful experience.

he looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. i will never f***et his words. “look,” he said, “we all have our fears, and you have yours.

you could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. running away can never dispel your fears, but action will. a winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.

”i spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. then i made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: i would face my fears – and take part in the ***petition!

as it turned out, my dear old professor was right. now, here i am, once again standing before a microphone. my heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, i have faced my fears -- and that makes all the difference!

thank you.

The very in the creed of common sense is Obedience.

Perform your work with a whole heart.

Revolt may be sometimes necessary, but the man who tries to mix revolt and obedience is doomed to disappoint himself and everybody with whom he has dealings. To flavor work with protest is to fail absolutely.

When you revolt, climb, hike, get out, defy, tell everybody and everything to go to hades! That disposes of the case. You thus separate yourself entirely from those you have served, no one misunderstands you have declared yourself.

The man who quits in disgust when ordered to perform a task which he considers menial or unjust may be a pretty good fellow, but the malcontent who takes your order with a smile and then secretly disobeys is a dangerous proposition. To pretend to obey, and yet carry in your heart the spirit of revolt is to do half hearted, slipshod work. If revolt and obedience are equal in power, your engine will then stop on the center and you benefit no one, not even yourself.

The spirit of obedience is the controlling impulse that dominates the receptive mind and the hospitable heart.

There are boats that mind the helm and there are boats that do not. Those that do not, get holes knocked in them sooner or later. To keep off the rocks, obey the rudder.

Obedience is not to slavishly obey this man or that, but it is that cheerful mental state which responds to the necessity of the case, and does the thing without any back talk unuttered or expressed.

The man who has not learned to obey has trouble ahead of him every step of the way. The world has it in for him continually, because he has it in for the man who does not know how to receive orders is not fit to issue them to others. But the individual who knows how to execute the orders given him is preparing the way to issue orders, and better still to have them obeyed.

good afternoon, everyone!

the topic of my speech today is “being a good listener”.

good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, and improve interpersonal relationship.

many people suggest that parents should listen more to their children, so they will understand them better, and find it easy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to their students, then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a good relationship with their students; students should listen more to their clas**ates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and a friendship is likely to be formed.

what i want to stress is that each of us should listen more to others. show your respect and never stop others till they finish their talk; show you are interested by a supportive silence or a knowing **ile; be open-minded to different opinions even though you don’t like them. in a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other.

thank you for your listening!

good afternoon ,ladies and gentlemen!

i’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic is opportunities and challenges.

first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said,”our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.

”needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the 20xx olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen?

new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.

other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly.

and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?

i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?”

for us, i mean the chinese youth, 20xx olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .the society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”hey!

***e here and take the helm! ”how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympic games waving its hand.

after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a “forter” ----that is someone who will give fort to others.

at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big **ile to challenges.

creating a brilliant beijing: time for action

ladies and gentlemen:

my topic is on creating a brilliant beijing: time for action

20xx is such a mon number, but many chinese will get excited when they mention it. how can a mon number attract such a strange fascination? the answer is ****** and obvious:

the twenty-ninth olympic game will be held in beijing in the year 20xx. at that time, the whole world will focus their attentions on beijing. as the hostess, beijing will show her beauty to the guests from all over the world.

the beijing olympic games will be a green olympic, a high technology olympic, and a people's olympic. among them, a green olympic is the most important concept. it will show the world the determination, the ability, and the confidence of the chinese people and their government to successfully hold a green olympic.

to achieve such a goal, however, it needs a lot of hard work.

as middle school students in beijing, we should take on more responsibilities for our capital city's environment. any action we take will affect the appearance of the city. therefore, we should start with ourselves, act now, and make every possible effort.

but how? you may ask.

there are a lot of things we can do in our daily lives. we all know the fact that

beijing is frequently assaulted by sand storms every year. forests and lands have been degraded by agricultural and industrial activities. to revive those desert lands is beyond our ability, but we can plant trees around our schools or in our neighborhood munities.

if everybody does so, there will be a green beijing and we will have a green olympic.

i don't know whether you've noticed that some students don't want to walk to school; their parents have to drive them to school every day. but nowadays, the air is polluted with automobile exhausts. what can we do about it?

ride on your bike to school and enjoy exercise! it will not only have significant benefits for y

your health, but also help improving our environment. in addition, if you don't drive cars, you will not go to the car wash. that will save large amount of water.

if everybody does something, there will be a green beijing and we will have a green olympic.

think it over, my friends. the things we can do are definitely not unrealistic. although we cannot provide with a clean energy source, achieve a better sewage treatment system, or stop any industry from using hazardous chemicals and releasing hazardous wastes, we can save every drop of water and protect every patch of green.

make beijing a more beautiful city, where green patches are everywhere and blue sky can be seen clearly above our heads.

a green beijing olympic is asking for action. act now.

thank you!

shall we choose death?

bertrand russell december 30, 1954 i am speaking not as a briton, not as a european, not as a member of a western democracy, but as a human being, a member of the species man, whose continued existence is in doubt. the world is full of conflicts: jews and arabs; indians and pakistanis; white men and negroes in africa; and, overshadowing all minor conflicts, the titanic struggle between ***muni** and anti***muni**.

almost everybody who is politically conscious has strong feelings about one or more of these issues; but i want you, if you can, to set aside such feelings for the moment and consider yourself only as a member of a biological species which has had a remarkable history and whose disappearance none of us can desire. i shall try to say no single word which should appeal to one group rather than to another. all, equally, are in peril, and, if the peril is understood, there is hope that they may collectively avert it.

we have to learn to think in a new way. we have to learn to ask ourselves not what steps can be taken to give military victory to whatever group we prefer, for there no longer are such steps. the question we have to ask ourselves is:

what steps can be taken to prevent a military contest of which the issue must be disastrous to all sides? the general public, and even many men in positions of authority, have not realized what would be involved in a war with hydrogen bombs. the general public still thinks in terms of the obliteration of cities.

it is understood that the new bombs are more powerful than the old and that, while one atomic bomb could obliterate hiroshima, one hydrogen bomb could obliterate the largest cities such as london, new york, and moscow. no doubt in a hydrogen-bomb war great cities would be obliterated. but this is one of the minor disasters that would have to be faced.

if everybody in london, new york, and moscow were exterminated, the world might, in the course of a few centuries, recover from the blow. but we now know, especially since the bikini test, that hydrogen bombs can gradually spread destruction over a much wider area than had been supposed. it is stated on very good authority that a bomb can now be manufactured which will be 25,000 times as powerful as that which destroyed hiroshima.

such a bomb, if exploded near the ground or under water, sends radioactive particles into the upper air. they sink gradually and reach the su***ce of the earth in the form of a deadly dust or rain. it was this dust which infected the japanese fishermen and their catch of fish although they were outside what american experts believed to be the danger zone.

no one knows how widely such lethal radioactive particles might be diffused, but the best authorities are unanimous in saying that a war with hydrogen bombs is quite likely to put an end to the human race. it is feared that if many hydrogen bombs are used there will be universal death - sudden only for a fortunate minority, but for the majority a slow torture of disease and disintegration... here, then, is the problem which i present to you, stark and dreadful and inescapable:

shall we put an end to the human race1 or shall mankind renounce war? people will not face this alternative because it is so difficult to abolish war. the abolition of war will demand distasteful limitations of national sovereignty.

but what perhaps impedes understanding of the situation more than anything else is that the term 'mankind' feels vague and abstract. people scarcely realize in imagination that the danger is to themselves and their children and their grandchildren, and not only to a dimly apprehended humanity' and so they hope that perhaps war may be allowed to continue provided modern weapons are prohibited. i am afraid this hope is illusory.

whatever agreements not to use hydrogen bombs had been reached in time of peace, they would no longer be considered binding in time of war, and both sides would set to work to manufacture hydrogen bombs as soon as war broke out, for if one side manufactured the bombs and the other did not, the side that manufactured them would inevitably be victorious... as geological time is reckoned, man has so far existed only for a very short period one million years at the most. what he has achieved, especially during the last 6,000 years, is something utterly new in the history of the co**os, so far at least as we are acquainted with it.

for countless ages the sun rose and set, the moon waxed and waned, the stars shone in the night, but it was only with the ***ing of man that these things were understood. in the great world of astronomy and in the little world of the atom, man has unveiled secrets which might have been thought undiscoverable. in art and literature and religion, some men have shown a sublimity of feeling which makes the species worth preserving.

is all this to end in trivial horror because so few are able to think of man rather than of this or that group of men? is our race so destitute of wisdom, so incapable of impartial love, so blind even to the ******st dictates of self-preservation, that the last proof of its silly cleverness is to be the extermination of all life on our pla***? - for it will be not only men who will perish, but also the animals, whom no one can accuse of ***muni** or anti***muni**.

i cannot believe that this is to be the end. i would have men f***et their quarrels for a moment and reflect that, if they will allow themselves to survive, there is every reason to expect the triumphs of the future to exceed immeasurably the triumphs of the past. there lies before us, if we choose, continual progress in happiness, knowledge, and wisdom.

shall we, instead, choose death, because we cannot f***et our quarrels? i appeal, as a human being to human beings: remember your humanity, and f***et the rest.

if you can do so, the way lies open to a new paradise; if you cannot, nothing lies before you but universal death.

saying goodbye to childhood,we step into another important time in the pace of young, facing new situations, dealing with different problems.....

everyone has his ownunderstanding of young,it is a period of time of beauty and wonders, only after you have

experienced the sour ,sweet ,bitter and salty can you really be***e a person of significance.thre time of young is limitted,it may pass by without your attention, and when you discover what has happened ,it is always too late.grasping the young well means a better time is waiting for you in the near future,or the situation may be opposite .

having a view on these great men in the history of hunmanbeing, they all made full use of their youth time ,to do things that are useful to society,to the whole mankind, and as a cosquence ,they are remembered by later

generations, admired by everyone.so do something in the time of young, although you may not get achievements as these greatmen did ,though not for the whole word, just for youeself, for those around!

the young is just like blooming flowers, they are so beautiful when blooming, they make people feel happy, but with time passing by,after they withers ,moet people think they are ugly.and so it is the same with young,we are enthusiastic when we are young, then we may lose our passion when getting older and older.so we must treasure it ,don't let the limitted time pass by ,leaving nothing of significance.

may 17, 2015

first, congratulations to the graduates from the cmu school of ***puter science! i’m deeply honored and grateful that you have invited me to be a part of this seminal moment in your lives. i’m honored and humbled that among many more ac***plished scs graduates, i was chosen to receive an honorary degree this year.

i received my first ph.d. in four and a half years.

this second ph.d. took 27 years.

this program must be getting a lot tougher.

i remember ***ing to cmu for the first time in 1983, when i was trying to decide what grad school to go to. i was like a kid in the candy store. cmu researchers were teaching machines to talk, listen, see and walk … i mean hop.

and i decided to attend cmu after i saw the machine of my dreams: a coke machine connected to the inter***, to ensure that we had an infinite supply of caffeine.

in 1983, this all seemed like science fiction to me. but now looking back, those technologies were just in their infancy. in 2015, 32 years later today, science fiction is about to be***e engineering reality.

and you are the chosen ones to use them to make the world a better place.

in the next 10 years, the inter*** of things will outnumber the inter*** of people by two orders of magnitude. if you think about it, you probably only own a hundred meaningful tings. so that means virtually every thinkable thing will be connected to the inter***.

will they be used as human amplification or human surveillance? that will be up to you.

in the next 10 year, our devices and the cloud will usually know what we want before we know it, and better than we know it. not just google new telling you about restaurant and transportation. but also question like “what should i say at the meeting?

”or “how should i approach this girl at the bar?“ with ***puter assistants getting **arter than us, will we be liberated or marginalized? that will be up to you.

in the next 10 years, most human jobs will be doable by machines, machines will replace factory workers, drivers, nurses, accountants, any job that has the world “assistant”or “agent”or “broker”in it. and even some doctors, lawyers, and professors sitting behind me. these machines will help us produce most of the works wealth, freeing much of our time will we be***e creative and find mankind’s destiny, or be***e mindless pets of these machines?

that will be up to you.

you are the generation that will make science fiction into engineering reality mary ***mencement speech talk about “you are the generation that matters …”but your case, it is true!

and undoubtedly, you’ve chosen the right school. there is no better school than cmu to train you to be a ***puter scientist or engineer. that’s why this school’s graduates are the highest paid graduates on the pla***.

i’ve hired for apple, google, ms-i can tell you, the cmu graduates, are not “one of the best”. you are the best.

so you might think you’re got it made! you are graduating from the best school, and entering the most exciting field, at a time when you possess the power of youth and productivity.

yes you have the power. but please remember what the world’s greater philosopher…spiderman said:”with great power ***es great responsibility.

you have a responsibility to work on the hard problems. don’t waste your time doing what machines will be able to do. don’t waste your talent repeating just what you learn at school.

don’t accept a job that doesn’t challenge you. take risks and vigorously learn, so that you can be***e the very best in something very specific and very useful.
